Znor's Addon Spotlight #1: ThreatPlates
« on: Tuesday, 20 Apr 2010, 13:28:58 »
Good day everyone!

I have no idea how long I'll manage to keep this up, but I'm planning on posting about a specific addon every 1-2 weeks, in an attempt to get more people to use them  :)

The addon I'll talk about today is currently in Beta. Actually, the addon itself isn't, but the module that makes it amazing is.

First up: The addon I'll be talking about is TidyPlates.

Note:
The headers of the addons are actually links to the website where you'll be able to download the addon or check for more information.

TidyPlates:

TidyPlates with the module Grey enabled.

It's actually not an addon by itself, but it requires specific modules to actually do something. When you activate a specific module, your nameplates will change. When you download TidyPlates, it comes with 2 modules: Grey/Tank and Grey/DPS.

Grey/Tank makes nameplates small if you have aggro on a mob, and large if you don't have aggro. It can also be configured to change the nameplate's color if you start losing threat. Grey/DPS does the exact opposite, the plates are small if you don't have aggro, and get large if a mob starts attacking you.

You can also specify which module you want to activate for each spec:

Options for TidyPlates

ThreatPlates:
Getting closer to what I would really like to show you, this is one of the modules available for TidyPlates. In my opinion, these plates look alot cleaner, while they still change in size if you do/don't have aggro.

ThreatPlates in action

ThreatPlates automatically discovers whether you are in a tanking or dps/heal spec, so you don't have to manually edit that in the TidyPlates options.

ThreatPlates also allows you to ignore/emphasize mobs that are neutral/bosses/elites, or mobs with specific marks.

ThreatPlates Beta:
This is one of the best addons I have at the moment. I use it mostly for PvP, because of the totem feature.

ThreatPlates Beta on totems

First of all, it shows a nice icon so you can quickly recognise totems (also uses class icons on players). Secondly, it allows you to ignore certain totems. So you choose not to display the nameplate of Mana Spring totems for example.

A feature that was added in the latest version of this Beta, was the 'Debuff Widget'. You can see right above the enemy's nameplate whether he has any debuffs and how long they last.

Debuffs over enemy nameplates

That's it for this week's addon spotlight, I hope I have been able to convince people that addons are good :)

LOL xD

And yeah, Threat Plates is damn nice for tanking. So much easier to mouse over taunt when the bar is twice the size of the others.
